In a case that highlights the continued efforts to disrupt the drug trade across the town, a Bedminster man has been jailed after officers in Swindon uncovered class A drugs hidden in his underwear.
Twenty-two-year-old Jaredel Comrie, of St Johns Lane, had already admitted possessing crack cocaine and heroin with intent to supply, alongside possession of cannabis and breaching a criminal behaviour order issued by Bristol Crown Court last year. His appearance at Swindon Crown Court on Tuesday, 25 November, resulted in a prison sentence of five and a half years.
Comrie first came to the attention of officers on 11 October, when he was stopped in Beckhampton Street, an area noted at the time for persistent drug activity. When challenged, he provided two false names – one belonging to a wanted man from Bristol – which only increased suspicions. A search at the roadside uncovered cannabis and a quantity of cash.
He was arrested, and a more thorough examination in custody revealed what officers had suspected: a mobile phone and a sizeable stash of crack cocaine and heroin concealed in his underwear. Subsequent checks of his phones uncovered messages pointing clearly towards drug supply.
PC Lauren Vincent, of the Local Policing Tasking Team, said:
“Comrie was carrying 46 wraps of class A drugs in his underwear, alongside a phone used to organise the movement and sale of drugs within Swindon. Stopping this operation has prevented harmful substances from reaching vulnerable people in our communities.”
Police continue to urge residents to report any concerns relating to drug activity. Information on how to do so can be found on the Wiltshire Police website.
