Man in His 80s Dies After Serious Collision Near Great Western Academy

A man in his 80s has tragically lost his life following a serious collision in Swindon on Sunday afternoon.

The incident took place shortly after 1pm on William Morris Way, close to the Great Western Academy in Tadpole Garden Village. Emergency services were called to the scene after a head-on crash involving a silver Hyundai i10 and an MG HS.

Members of the public acted swiftly, pulling the elderly driver from the Hyundai shortly before the vehicle caught fire. Despite their efforts, the man suffered a cardiac arrest and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver’s next of kin have been informed, and Wiltshire Police have extended their condolences to the family during what must be an unimaginably difficult time.

The woman behind the wheel of the MG HS, thought to be in her 30s, sustained injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.

William Morris Way was closed in both directions throughout the afternoon to allow officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Team to carry out their work. The road has since reopened.
