A man in his 30s has been arrested on suspicion of arson with intent to endanger life and burglary.
The arrest comes after the emergency services were called to a mid-terraced property in Downton Road, Penhill at 6.41pm last night for a fire affecting both the ground and first floor.
Four crews attended, from Swindon, Stratton, Westlea and Royal Wootton Bassett, together with the aerial ladder platform from Swindon.
Ten breathing apparatus wearers, two hose reel jets and a main jet were used to extinguish the fire and also prevent it from spreading to the neighbouring properties.
There was no one in the house when we arrived and no casualties reported. Our stop was at 9.01pm.
A fire investigator is on scene this morning to support the police investigations into what happened.
