A 19-year-old man has been charged following a police pursuit through Swindon which ended in a collision on the A419.
The incident occurred on Thursday afternoon (12th June) when officers attempted to stop a vehicle at around 1.25pm. The driver, later identified as Tyler Okeeffe of Azalea Drive, Burbage, Leicestershire, failed to comply, sparking a pursuit through parts of Swindon.
The pursuit concluded with the vehicle colliding on the busy A419, bringing a swift end to the chase and allowing officers to detain the suspect.
Following his arrest, Okeeffe was charged with multiple offences including dangerous driving, driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence, driving without insurance, operating a vehicle without a valid MOT certificate, and failing to stop for police.
He appeared before Swindon Magistrates’ Court on Saturday morning (14th June), where he was remanded into custody. The case is now scheduled for a plea hearing at Swindon Crown Court on 18th July.
The incident serves as a stark reminder of the risks posed by reckless driving on public roads, not only to the driver but to innocent members of the public.
A Wiltshire Police spokesperson said: “Fortunately no one was seriously injured during the incident. However, pursuits such as this carry inherent dangers and our officers are trained to manage these situations with public safety as the priority.”
