A man has been banned from entering any Co-op or Tesco Express stores across Swindon as part of a two-year Criminal Behaviour Order (CBO).
Stuart Hook, 37, of no fixed abode, appeared at Swindon Magistrates Court on 12 September charged with nine counts of theft from Co-op and Tesco Express stores between June and August 2025, with goods worth hundreds of pounds stolen.
Hook was sentenced to:
-
Six months in prison, suspended for 18 months
-
120 hours of unpaid work
-
Up to 20 days of rehabilitation activity
The CBO, which will last two years, was imposed to protect local retailers and their staff.
PC Andy Caldwell said:
“This Criminal Behaviour Order has been put in place to protect local retailers and their staff from repeated theft and disruption. It sends a clear message that persistent anti-social behaviour will not be tolerated in Swindon.
If Hook breaches any of the conditions, he will face arrest and further prosecution. We remain committed to supporting businesses and taking firm action against those who repeatedly offend.”
Anyone with concerns about behaviour in their area is urged to contact police on 101, or 999 in an emergency. Reports can also be submitted online at wiltshire.police.uk.
