A man from Manchester has been arrested after packets of suspected drugs were found in a vehicle following a crash near Swindon.
Wiltshire Police were alerted to a two-vehicle road traffic collision on the A419, close to the Castle Eaton turn-off, at around 9.40am this morning (3/2).
It involved a silver Ford Fiesta and a silver Kia Cee’d, which were both travelling on the southbound carriageway.
Fortunately, nobody was injured, but when officers searched the Ford Fiesta they discovered packets of what is believed to be amphetamines.
A 26-year-old man from Manchester has been arrested on suspicion of driving while over the legal alcohol limit, driving while over the specified limit of a controlled drug, driving while unfit through drugs and possession with intent to supply a Class B drug (namely amphetamine).
He is currently in custody at Gablecross Police Station.
PC Craig Beales, from Swindon Community Policing Team, said: “Thankfully this didn’t turn out to be a serious collision and nobody was hurt.
“But it was a great find by the attending officers, who quickly picked up on the driver’s demeanour and carried out a thorough search of the vehicle, locating these drugs.
“Obviously, our enquiries are at an early stage, but this case appears to highlight the ongoing issue of illegal drugs being brought into our county from elsewhere and we will continue to take action to tackle the problem.”
