The M4 westbound in Wiltshire is closed between J16 (Swindon) and J17 (Cirencester) due to an incident which is being led by Wiltshire Police.
Due to the nature of this incident the closure is expected to be in place for a number of hours into the early evening. There are severe delays of over 1 and a half hours approaching the closure at J16.
Diversion Route: Follow signs with the solid diamond symbol.
Exit at J16 and take the 2nd exit at the roundabout to join the A3102 in the direction towards Royal Wooton Basset. Continue on the A3102 passing through Royal Wooton Basset, Goatacre, Hilmarton until the roundabout with the A4. At the roundabout take the 2nd exit to join A4 westbound and travel into Chippenham. Once in Chippenham join the A420 westbound in the direction towards Allington. At the roundabout with the A350 take the 4th exit to join the A350 northbound and continue on this road in the direction of Stanton St Quintin. At the roundabout with the M4 take the 1st exit to re-join the M4 westbound at J17.
Road users are advised to allow plenty of extra time for their journeys and may wish to consider using an alternative route if possible.
