Looking to keep fit and active during lockdown? Why not support vulnerable young people at the same time

Local youth development charity, the Youth Adventure Trust, is looking for people who are looking to keep fit and active during this lockdown to take on a Virtual Resilience Challenge.

Inspired by the resilience the vulnerable young people develop over their time on the Youth Adventure Trust programme, they are challenging the Swindon and Wiltshire residents to run, ride or ramble 25km, 65km or 100km from Saturday 13th to Sunday 21th February 2021.

If you are looking to keep fit and active during this lockdown, you can take part wherever you are on any day this February half term.

Your Holiday Starts Now

Choose your challenge – ride, run or ramble your way to resilience… pick to do one, two or all three disciplines, or do something else – it’s your challenge!

Choose your own distance – 25km, 65km or 100km either in a day or across the week – stay local please, lap your garden or use indoor exercise kit.

Go at your own pace – complete the distance on your own, with a pet, or recruit your household/support bubble as a team to conquer the distance together

Your support will help to raise vital cash to fund life-changing activity days so that vulnerable children can step out of their comfort zone and build resilience themselves.

The Youth Adventure Trust has been using outdoor adventure to inspire young lives for 27 years and have helped around 3,900 vulnerable young people aged 11 – 16 face a wide range of challenges including: bullying, low self-esteem, suffering from social isolation, behaviour issues, living in poverty or caring for a family member.

Donna, a Resilience Challenge participant who is training to take on a 25km run, says, “I’m actually really enjoying having something to focus on, and it’s helping to keep me motivated on these cold, dark and windy nights!”

The charity are currently working with 113 young people and the challenges they face on a daily basis have not disappeared because of Covid-19. It is more important than ever that the charity can re-start the Youth Adventure Programme so that those vulnerable young people can get back outside safely and start building their confidence and resilience once again.

By joining the Resilience Challenge, you will be making a very real difference to the lives of vulnerable young people like Ben who says about his time on the Youth Adventure Programme: “It’s helped me with my confidence most definitely and with my trust – definitely helped me with my trust. I just want to say a big thank you because without everything that the YAT has done, I would be so different and it’s like you guys have changed me and for the better.”
