Longleat Introduces DinoSNORE Hour for Guests with Sensory Needs

Longleat’s summer spectacle, DinoROAR, is set to offer a tranquil twist with the introduction of DinoSNORE, a daily nap for its animatronic dinosaurs, designed specifically for guests with sensory needs.

Running from 20th July to 1st September, DinoROAR features an array of prehistoric giants housed in The Longhouse at the Wiltshire estate. However, between 3.30pm and 4.30pm each day, these impressive creatures will take a break from their usual activities to create a quiet and serene environment.

Your Holiday Starts Now

During this dedicated hour, the animatronic dinosaurs will remain still, and there will be no loud noises or vibrant lighting. Visitors can still learn about these fascinating creatures, enjoy virtual reality experiences, and participate in Dino Dig, an interactive activity to uncover fossils.

Even the park’s roaming T-rex will join the rest, ensuring a peaceful experience for all attendees during this time. This initiative is part of a broader effort to make Longleat more accessible and comfortable for visitors with sensory needs.

In conjunction with DinoSNORE, Longleat has introduced a sensory map and special signs throughout the park to highlight particularly noisy or warm areas. Available for download from the website, the map allows families to plan their visit according to their specific needs. These resources will be available from 20th July and are a permanent addition to the park.

Kim Ovens, Education and Engagement Lead at Longleat, commented, “We know from feedback that public spaces can be overwhelming for those with neurodiversity when trying to deal with too much information. Modifying lighting, sound and temperature can help ease sensory stress and it is important to us we make our guests as comfortable as possible.”

Ovens added, “It’s not always possible to change temperatures, particularly in animal areas, but with the new signage and sensory map, we can inform guests of what they may encounter. We have worked with local sensory experts and listened to what our guests have told us to bring in these initiatives.”

Longleat’s website now features a dedicated accessibility section, providing a social story to help visitors prepare for their trip, details about the Queue Assist Scheme, and additional information to ensure a smooth and enjoyable visit for all.

DinoROAR is included in all Longleat Day Tickets, promising a summer of educational and sensory-friendly fun for the entire family.
