Lockdown flouters set to be hit with increased fines

Boris Johnson is this evening reported to be set to unveil a new coronavirus warning system and drastically increase fines for those flouting the rules as he outlines plans to gradually ease the lockdown restrictions.

The Prime Minister will be telling the UK to “stay alert, control the virus and save lives” when he outlines his “road map” to a new normal this evening.

In a toughening of measures, fines for those who fail to abide by the rules are likely to be hiked.

Repeat offenders could be hit with fines of up to £3,200 under the new ruling or first time offenders could have to fork out £100 – nearly double the current penalty.

This comes after police had to disperse a number of groups from a Swindon park this weekend including one of 16 people, all of whom were issued with a warning.
