A man has been sentenced to over nine years in prison following a violent aggravated burglary in Swindon that left victims traumatised and police still hunting three suspects.
Chaivaz Stapleton, 29, of Station Road, New Barnet, appeared at Swindon Crown Court on Friday 2nd May, where he was handed a sentence of nine years and one month for his role in the harrowing break-in, which took place in broad daylight.
The incident occurred at approximately 11.50am on 13th September 2023, when Stapleton, along with three unknown individuals, stormed a residential property on Okebourne Park in Liden. The group threatened the occupants with a hammer before making off with a haul of jewellery, leaving behind a shaken household and a serious police investigation.
Detectives tracked a black Vauxhall Astra linked to the crime, registered to Stapleton, and subsequently arrested him in London on 15th October after executing a warrant at his home address. He was charged with aggravated burglary and later admitted the offence in court.
Despite Stapleton’s conviction, Wiltshire Police confirm the case remains open, as three suspects are still at large.
Detective Constable Jared Yalden from the Serious Organised Crime Unit said:
“This was a targeted and invasive attack. The sentence reflects the serious nature of the offence and the lasting impact on the victims. Burglary is not only a crime of theft – it can rob people of their sense of security in their own home. That’s why it remains a priority for the force.”
“We know Stapleton did not act alone, and we are determined to bring the others involved to justice. If you have any information, no matter how small it may seem, please get in touch.”
Wiltshire Police urge anyone with relevant information to contact them, quoting the incident, or to report anonymously via Crimestoppers.
