Can you help identify this ridiculous graffiti tag that has been painted onto the outside of the MECA building in the Town Centre?
The graffiti ‘tag’ that now mars the MECA building is an act of vandalism and is not just an eyesore but a substantial financial burden to those who work each day to run a venue to bring events to Swindon that may not otherwise come to town.
Justin Britchford of MECA took to Facebook to express his frustration, and we echo his sentiments. His plea for help in identifying the vandal is a call that resonates with all of us who value our town’s reputation and appearance. Justin aptly described the vandal as a “brainless little idiot,” and indeed, such actions defy logic and decency.
The irony is that those responsible for such acts are often quick to complain about the town’s decline. Yet, it is their actions that contribute to the decline they decry.
Graffiti may seem like a minor issue, but it sends a damaging message about the state of our town, dissuading potential investors, and eroding the pride of Swindonians.
Removing graffiti is not a simple task; it comes at a cost. MECA and other affected businesses across the town that have this ridiculous tag adorned on their buildings must now spend thousands of pounds to rectify the damage caused by a single thoughtless individual.
In response to this ridiculous incident, Justin Britchford has offered a £250 reward for information leading to the identification of the vandal.
“I need help in finding out who this brainless little idiot is please. You spend tens of thousands of pounds and someone thinks it’s funny to tag it. pathetic. £250 reward for the name.”
If you have any details that could help identify the individual or any over ‘Brainless idiot’ that finds it funny going around writing pointless rubbish, please reach out to Wiltshire Police on 101.
If you are one of the mindless idiots intent on making the town look bad why not put your time and spray paint into joining efforts such as Swindon Paintfest? You can put your name in the corner and it will be shared by the many visitors to the town that share their pictures online.
