There were smiles, relief and a few happy tears at Lawn Manor Academy today as pupils collected their GCSE results.
Head of School, Russell Langdown, praised the determination shown by the year group, many of whom had their education disrupted during the pandemic.
He said:“Today, we celebrate the achievements of our Year 11 pupils as they receive their GCSE results, as well as Year 10 pupils who sat their GCSE in Physics one year early. These outcomes are a testament not only to their academic ability but also to their resilience, determination and adaptability in the face of unprecedented challenges.
The impact of the Covid-19 pandemic continues to be felt across education. This cohort experienced significant disruption during their formative years, yet they have shown commendable perseverance and maturity. Our results this year reflect a broad spectrum of success, with many pupils achieving excellent grades across subjects ranging from Further Maths to Bengali and Polish. Beyond the numerical outcomes, these results represent personal triumphs, supported by staff and families. Most importantly, I would like to congratulate our pupils – their journey has been anything but ordinary, and their achievements are all the more impressive because of it.”
This year’s results have seen pupils secure places at sixth forms, colleges, apprenticeships and training programmes.
Among the stand-out achievers:
Reece gained nine GCSEs, including a grade 9 in Maths, grade 8 in Computer Science and grade 7 in Spanish. He will be heading to Cirencester College.
Aysha achieved grade 9s in Religious Studies and Combined Science, plus a grade 8 in Geography. She will study Law, Economics and Politics at Cirencester College with ambitions of becoming a corporate lawyer.
Eddie, a Year 10 pupil, achieved a grade 7 in Physics a year early and is set to take up the role of Head Pupil next year.
Zeccai will be moving on to New College to study Music, Film and Media.
Micky will also attend New College to study Business, Economics and Computer Science.
Mr Langdown was quick to acknowledge the role of staff, saying the professionalism and commitment of teachers and support workers had made “a profound difference in the lives of our pupils.”
As Lawn Manor Academy’s newest leavers take their next steps, the school has marked another year of achievement, resilience and ambition – with plenty of reasons to be proud.
