Swindon Borough Council’s Armed Forces Champion and North Swindon Parliamentary Candidate, Will Stone, joined in an informal breakfast gathering with Swindon Veterans over the weekend at the Kembrey Inn. Also present was Heidi Alexander, the Labour Party’s Parliamentary Candidate for South Swindon.
Will Stone, reflecting on the occasion, stated, As someone who served as a Rifleman in the Army, I know that our Armed Forces are made up of great men and women who have served our country with incredible loyalty and bravery.
“These breakfast clubs are a brilliant way to have a chat, reconnect with vets, and enjoy some of that famous military banter.
“In my role as Swindon’s Armed Forces Champion, I’m really keen that the Borough Council builds a close working relationship with all veterans in the town and that we do all we can to support them and their families.”
Heidi Alexander, who coordinated the visit in response to an invitation from Dave Shaw of the group, remarked, “You can’t beat a good fry up on a Sunday morning and I really enjoyed meeting everyone. The Labour Party is determined to do right by those who have served in our Armed Forces.
“I’m particularly keen that as part of our wider mission to provide good mental health support for everyone, we ensure veterans can access timely and high-quality mental health care. The whole issue of compensation for people who are suffering from Gulf War Syndrome has also been raised with me when I’ve been knocking on doors in Swindon and that’s something I’ve already raised with the Shadow Defence Ministers.”
Swindon hosts several Veterans Breakfast events, including those at the Kembrey Inn and the Tawny Owl on Sunday mornings, as well as the Toby Carvery at Abbey Meads on Saturday mornings.
