Journey into Festivity: Christmas Extravaganza Returns to STEAM

Get ready for a festive spectacle as STEAM – Museum of the Great Western Railway welcomes back the Christmas extravaganza, following the success of last year’s sell-out event.

Mark your calendars for Saturday, 2nd, and Sunday, 3rd December, as the popular Swindon Borough Council-owned museum transforms into a Christmas wonderland.

This magical weekend promises the sights and sounds of Christmas, featuring over 55 artisan market stalls amidst STEAM’s captivating story-telling displays and iconic GWR locomotives. Explore the wonderland, discover unique gift ideas, and indulge in festive treats as you peruse hand-crafted items ranging from textiles, jewellery, and cosmetics to home furnishings, artworks, and Christmas confectionery.

Your Holiday Starts Now

Festive admission prices are set at £3.50 for adults and £1 for children (3-15 years), with under-threes enjoying free entry. Your ticket grants access to both the event and the museum itself.

Santa himself will be in attendance, hosting beloved story-time sessions where children can enjoy a Christmas tale and receive a wrapped gift in a delightful fireplace setting. Sessions are priced at £9 per child, with up to two accompanying adults admitted free of charge. Each session lasts approximately 20 minutes.

Councillor Marina Strinkovsky, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Heritage, Art, and Culture, expressed excitement about the upcoming event, stating, “Christmas at STEAM is a truly magical experience when you can imagine chasing Santa’s sleigh in one of our engines, Polar Express-style. No wonder it’s always so popular!”

The festive atmosphere extends beyond the market stalls, with special lighting, live music, and performances on stage. The spacious Great Western Hall offers ample seating and a Christmas Café for visitors to take a break, enjoy live musical performances, and immerse themselves in the Christmas spirit.

Additionally, the STEAM shop boasts a fantastic range of Christmas presents, from GWR socks and books to stocking fillers and railway-themed souvenirs.
