Christmas is coming….and this year Swindon Town centre will lit up by pop star Aston Merrygold.

A former member of the British Boy Band JLS and more recently appearing on Strictly Come Dancing – Aston has this afternoon been announced as the latest headliner to kick off festivities in Swindon.
Aston will be joined on stage by this year’s Wyvern Theatre Panto stars, Michelle Collins and CBeebies Chris Jarvis, who are currently in rehearsal for Sleeping Beauty which runs at the Wyvern Theatre from Saturday 7th December until Sunday 5th January 2020.

The switch-on event will also be a showcase of local community groups and performers including singing duo Billy & Louie who earlier this year wowed crowds at Swindon and Wiltshire PRIDE, Swindon Dance who have worked with choreographer Reuel Elija from Jukebox Collective to produce a high-energy urban piece, PQA Swindon who have a special performance planned for the audience to enjoy, as well as other performances which will be announced in the coming weeks.
Wyvern Theatre Director Laura James said “Everyone here is really thrilled that Michelle will be joining us for this year’s fun packed pantomime, an actress with her talent and profile is sure to make this our fastest selling ever, and with Chris Jarvis also in the team, Sleeping Beauty promises to be spectacular family entertainment. We are so pleased to be working with inSwindon BID to enhance this year’s Big Light Switch On.”
The big switch on moment will take place at 6pm, followed by the much-loved glittering firework display lighting up the sky above the town centre for 10-minutes, which this year is kindly sponsored by The Brunel Shopping Centre.
Centre Manager of The Brunel Shopping Centre, Jane Stewart, said “Christmas is a magical time of year and The Brunel Shopping Centre is delighted to be sponsoring the fireworks* at this year’s Christmas Light Switch-On on 16th November, bringing a spectacular finale to mark the start of Christmas in Swindon town centre!”
