An investigation has been launched following the tragic death of a man discovered seriously injured outside a property on Manchester Road in Swindon during the early hours of Tuesday morning.
At approximately 5.10am on 2nd July, emergency services were alerted to reports of a man, believed to be in his twenties, found in a critical condition on Manchester Road. Despite being swiftly transported to hospital for urgent medical treatment, he sadly succumbed to his injuries.
A police cordon has been erected, and Manchester Road remains fully closed while officers carry out detailed enquiries at the scene. Detectives are working to identify the man’s next of kin as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding his death.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, who is leading the investigation, stated: “This is a serious incident which has sadly resulted in a man losing his life. Our team is keeping an open mind as we piece together what led to this tragedy. We are urging anyone with any information, no matter how small, to contact us.”
In particular, detectives are appealing for a man who was riding an electric bicycle and initially alerted officers to the incident but left without leaving his details. Officers are keen to speak to this individual as a potential key witness.
DCI Walker added: “We understand there will be concern in the community, especially in light of the recent terrorism arrest in the area. However, it is important to stress that there is no information at this time to suggest any link between this incident and recent events.”
Wiltshire Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed anything suspicious in the area overnight, or who possesses dash cam or CCTV footage from the vicinity, to come forward. Those with information should contact 101 quoting log 47 of 2nd July.
Alternatively, anonymous reports can be made to Crimestoppers by calling 0800 555111. In the event of an emergency, residents are reminded to always dial 999.
