During the visits, one person was arrested but subsequently de-arrested to remove them from the location due to concerns related to modern slavery. Additionally, another individual, identified as an asylum seeker who had not undergone due process, was dealt with by immigration authorities.

All necessary paperwork was found to be in order at the premises, and significant intelligence was gathered as a result of these visits.

Acting Inspector Chris French emphasized the significance of Operation Aidant, stating, “This annual operation, which focuses on vulnerability, exploitation, and modern slavery, brings together local forces and partner agencies. Our checks at various premises in Swindon aimed to ensure legal compliance and appropriate treatment of employees.”

He further added, “This successful operation, conducted in collaboration with our partners, highlights our unwavering commitment to tackling modern slavery and human trafficking. We will not tolerate any breach of immigration laws or employee rights by employers.”

Acting Inspector French also reminded business owners of their responsibility to verify the immigration status of their employees during the hiring process.
