Ikea have recalled thousands of gas hobs for repair due to risk of carbon monoxide poisoning.

The model was available in 22 European countries and 5,757 were sold in the UK alone.

It said the fault was due to human error which resulted in the wrong gas injector installed, leading to CO emissions above EU limits.

Ikea insisted that it has issued the recall as a precautionary measure. There is no elevated risk of fire or explosion and there have been no reported incidents.

However, the retailer has asked shoppers to contact its customer service team on 02036450010 to book a home visit by a technician to repair the fault as soon as possible.

The retailer added that a receipt is not needed and it would do its “utmost” to minimise the waiting time.

Ikea have apologised for “any inconvenience this may cause”.
