Hreod Burna Urban Forest urge residents to grow sunflowers in support of Ukraine

Hreod Burna Urban Forest is asking local residents to help them plant hundreds of sunflowers, the national flower of Ukraine.

HBUF is a small area of woodland nestled between Gorse Hill and Pinehurst. Managed by a small team of trustees with the aim of providing a haven for wildlife and people alike.

Since they began, their volunteers have planted thousands of trees and wildflowers. Today their wildflower meadow is full of Snake’s head fritillaries, but their latest project aims to add a dramatic splash of colour during the summer months and is an opportunity for anyone to join in.

Your Holiday Starts Now

They want people to plant their sunflowers at home now, then at the end of May to bring them along to HBUF to be planted together.

According to their Chair of Trustees, Andy Bentley, HBUF is all about providing a green space in the Swindon suburbs where people can get closer to nature. He hopes this small act of solidarity will encourage more people to discover their green fingers and get involved in their local community forest.

Anyone who would like to join in is invited to start planting their seeds now, and to bring their young sunflowers along to HBUF from 2pm on Saturday the 28th of May.
