Elections are taking place in nearly every area of Swindon on Thursday 5th May to elect councillors to Swindon Borough Council.
The only part of Swindon not going to the polls will be the Ridgeway ward.
To vote, you need to be both eligible and registered to vote.
To register to vote, you must be:
– a UK or Irish citizen
– a qualifying Commonwealth citizen living in the UK
– an EU citizen living in the UK
– aged 16 or over (but you cannot vote until you are 18 years old)
Those who are registered to vote will receive a poll card that states at which polling station they should vote. A poll card does not need to be taken to the polling station to vote.
If you have not yet registered, you can do so online at www.gov.uk/register-to-vote. To register to vote online takes just five minutes. Your National Insurance number is needed.
You do not need to register to vote before every election.
If you cannot register online, you can do so by telephone or post and you should contact Swindon Borough Council on 01793 464601.
The deadline to register to vote in the elections on 5th May is 11:59 pm on Thursday 14th April.
If you’re planning to use a postal vote this year, you need to apply by 19th April, or if you’d like a proxy vote, get your application in by 26th April.
Polling stations will be open from 7 am to 10 pm on polling day, Thursday 5th May.
