We all know that Valentine’s Day is celebrated on 14th February to show our loved ones how much they are adored. But why? How did Valentine’s Day come about?

What is Valentine’s Day?

Valentine’s Day is associated with romantic love and affection. The history of Valentine’s Day is not clear, but there are several theories about its origins.

One theory is that the day is named after Saint Valentine, a Catholic priest who lived in the third century. According to legend, Saint Valentine performed secret marriages for young lovers during a time when the Roman Empire banned marriages.

He was eventually caught and executed for his actions on February 14th, which is why the day is associated with love and romance.

Another theory is that the day originated from the ancient Roman festival of Lupercalia, which was held in mid-February to celebrate fertility and the coming of spring.

As part of the festival, young men would draw the names of women from a box and be paired with them for the duration of the festival. This may have contributed to the association of the day with love and romance.

Regardless of its origins, the celebration of Valentine’s Day has evolved over the centuries to become a day for expressing love and affection through cards, gifts, and acts of kindness.

It is now celebrated in many countries around the world and has become a significant cultural and commercial holiday.
