Housebuilder sleeps out to support homeless in Wiltshire

Business leaders at the nation’s largest housebuilder are sleeping out to support homeless and vulnerably housed people in Wiltshire.

Barratt Bristol managing director Rob Hart, head of construction Kevin White and site manager Jay Forsey will spend the night sleeping rough as part of the Doorway Sleep Out 2023 event on 25 March at John Coles Park in Chippenham.

Doorway’s annual charity event raises money for the drop in and group services it provides, as well as raising awareness of the day-to-day reality of the homeless and vulnerably housed people across the county.

Rob Hart said: “Everyone should have the right to have somewhere warm, comfortable and safe to live and as a housebuilder we are acutely aware that we should be supporting efforts to alleviate homelessness.

“When we create a new development we consider ourselves as very much part of the local community where we have a duty to play an active part.

“We hope our fundraising will go some way to raise awareness of an issue that shouldn’t but still very much exists.”

Barratt Bristol, which has developments in Chippenham, Melksham and Swindon, supports local communities throughout the South West with charitable donations of some £250,000 every year through the Barratt Foundation and local fundraising.  It also encourages all its employees to commit to paid volunteering days throughout the year.
