Pupils at Shaw Ridge Primary School are in for a summer term to remember after David Wilson Homes’ site manager, Jason Garnham, presented them with a collection of ‘We Can Build’ books.
Shaw Ridge Primary School is close to Orchards Rise where 190 new David Wilson Homes are being built along with 182 new Barratt Homes properties at Wichel Fields – developments which are part of the popular Wichelstowe community.
Louise Ware, sales director at Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, said: “Designed to be both informative and fun, ‘We Can Build’ educates five to seven-year-olds about the built environment and shows them how rewarding it can be to work in the sector. Illustrating real professions with fun characters will hopefully bring to life just how rewarding a career in housebuilding can be.
“It was a pleasure to make this donation and we hope we’ve inspired the next generation of architects, quantity surveyors and site managers.”
Sally Cowell, headteacher at Shaw Ridge Primary School, concluded: “Our pupils will love reading ‘We Can Build’ which I’m sure will open their eyes to the number of jobs there are in the housebuilding and construction industry.”
Barratt Developments’ ASPIRE graduates wrote ‘We Can Build’ as part of the Prince’s Trust Million Makers challenge and all money raised from the proceeds of the book will go to the Prince’s Trust Charity.
The entrepreneurial challenge sees teams of employees from organisations across the UK competing to raise as much as possible from an initial seed funding investment. The Prince’s Trust believes that every young person should have the chance to embrace exciting opportunities. It helps 11- to 30-year-olds find the tools and confidence to take on courses and start careers.
