Earlier this week the Prime Minister Boris Johnson promised 24-hour-a-day programme “as soon as possible” and the Chief Executive of the NHS has confirmed today that selected hospitals will start trialling round-the-clock vaccinations within the next 10 days.
Sir Simon Steven talking to the BBC said that some hospitals would open for vaccinations 24 hours a day, seven days a week on a trial basis in the next 10 days.
“We will start testing 24/7 in some hospitals over the course of the next 10 days,” he said.
Sir Stevens also confirmed that hospitals are admitting a new coronavirus patient every 30 seconds, “but are also vaccinating at about 140 jabs a minute and yesterday a quarter of a million people got their vaccinations on the NHS.
“I’m pretty confident by the time we get to the end of today, Sunday night, we will have perhaps done 1.5 million vaccinations this past week, that’s up from around a million the week before.”
This news comes as the NHS announced another ten vaccination centres are set to open this coming week although none in Swindon.
