Hospice Supporters Take on the Ultimate Challenge Along the Great Wall of China

Twenty-two dedicated Prospect Hospice supporters have set off on the adventure of a lifetime — a nine-day trek along one of the world’s most iconic landmarks, the Great Wall of China.

The group departed from the hospice in Wroughton on Saturday, 11 October, after raising an incredible £73,000 to support the hospice’s specialist end-of-life care for local people and families.

The challenge includes a five-day trek across both restored and wild sections of the wall, testing participants’ stamina as they tackle steep climbs, rugged terrain, and sweeping views of mountains and valleys. The journey will conclude with a visit to Beijing, including stops at two of China’s most famous landmarks — the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square.

Jeremy Lune, Chief Executive of Prospect Hospice, praised the team’s spirit and commitment:

“We’re so proud of our amazing supporters for taking on such an extraordinary challenge. Every step they take helps ensure we can continue providing specialist care and support to people in our community living with life-limiting illnesses. Their dedication and spirit truly embody what Prospect Hospice is all about.”

Trekkers will cover several sections of the Great Wall, some dating back thousands of years, while experiencing China’s breathtaking landscapes and remote countryside.

One of the participants, Karma, said:

“This will be the experience of a lifetime. It’ll be tough, emotional and inspiring in equal measure. Trekking through remote hills and along the Great Wall with such an amazing group, all raising funds for a cause close to our hearts, has been unforgettable.”

The China Trek takes place from 11–19 October 2025 and marks one of Prospect Hospice’s most ambitious overseas fundraising events to date.
