Home Secretary Priti Patel has advised that there will be no new lockdown restrictions imposed “today or tomorrow”.
Responding to questions on ITV’s This Morning she said: “The plans are very much to enforce the rules.
“This isn’t about new rules coming in – we’re going to stick with enforcing the current measures.”
When asked if it was likely further restrictions, such as a three-metre social distancing rule, or the requirement to wear masks outside was going to be implemented next week, she replied: “We are not thinking about bringing in new measures today or tomorrow.”
With the NHS under extraordinary pressures, and the Great Western Hospital declaring a critical incident just yesterday, it remains likely that the current restrictions will be toughened to bring the infection rate under control.
