Highworth is set to dazzle on Saturday, 30th November, as the High Street and Market Square transform into a Christmas wonderland for the town’s annual light switch-on event. The festivities will run from 10am to 5.30pm, promising a day packed with seasonal delights and community spirit.
The event will feature over 50 independent stalls, festive food and drink, face painting, a rodeo bull, and entertainers mingling with the crowds. Adding to the excitement, there will be performances by local school choirs, the Highworth Silver Band, and the Highworth Choral Society. Children can also join a competition to win the honour of turning on the Christmas lights, while the Mayor’s raffle will raise funds with festive prizes donated by local businesses.
The highlight of the day is a giant inflatable snow globe, generously provided by Barratt David Wilson Homes South West. Complete with a 5ft Christmas tree, a winter scene, and biodegradable snowballs, families can enjoy a snowball fight and have photographs taken inside the globe. A small donation will grant access, with all proceeds supporting The Forget Me Not Charity, a Highworth-based dementia support group.
A Community Coming Together
The Mayor of Highworth, Councillor Julie Murphy, said:
“This event is a wonderful way for us to come together as a community, celebrate the season, and raise money for a cause that touches so many lives.
“The support from Barratt David Wilson Homes South West has been invaluable, and I’m sure the snow globe will be a huge hit with families. Christmas is a time of joy but also a time when loneliness and memory challenges can feel more acute, making the work of The Forget Me Not Charity so important.”
The day will conclude with the eagerly awaited light switch-on at 5.30pm, followed by a visit from Santa himself in his sleigh.
Barratt David Wilson Homes South West, the team behind the soon-to-launch Honeymans Helm development, expressed their delight in supporting the event.
Louise Ware, Sales Director, commented: “We’re thrilled to play a part in bringing the magic of Christmas to Highworth. It’s fantastic to see the community come together for such a meaningful cause, and we hope this event helps make Christmas truly special for everyone.”
Honeymans Helm will feature 238 energy-efficient homes, with 30% set aside for affordable rent. The development is due to launch in spring 2025.
