The number of inpatients at the Great Western Hospital with Covid has spiked over the last few weeks, with the local NHS trust reporting there are currently 100 patients being treated for the virus.
100 Covid-19 patients is the highest number seen since the last peak in February 2021.
A spokesperson for the NHS trust said ‘We would urge local people to consider doing all they can to stop the spread of transmission, including regularly washing your hands and wearing a face mask in indoor public places.
‘We would also like to remind people about our current visiting restrictions – Visitors must book their visit in advance, should receive a negative lateral flow before attending the hospital and must wear a face mask.
‘It’s really important that we all play our part, to protect vulnerable people, our families, friends and ourselves.’
Just last week, on the second anniversary since the first Covid lockdown, Dr Hilary Jones appeared on ITV’s Good Morning Britain and warned of increasing Covid cases across the UK saying “This has been a dreadful, global infection which is still continuing. Cases are rising now.
“They are rising due to the Omicron variant – which is more transmissible and less severe. There may be other variants coming. We can’t be complacent. Hospitalisations are increasing so death rates are up by 17 per cent as well.
