Heidi Alexander Kicks Off Labour Campaign in South Swindon with New HQ Opening

In a stroke of fortunate timing, Labour’s candidate for the forthcoming General Election, Heidi Alexander, witnessed the unveiling of her new signage on her campaign headquarters on Curtis Street just hours before Prime Minister Rishi Sunak disclosed the election date.

Heidi, a familiar figure who can regularly be found pounding the streets of Swindon with her relentless door-to-door canvassing, has set her sights on clinching the South Swindon seat for the Labour Party in the imminent General Election.

Heidi, a proud Swindonian said, “I’m a Swindon girl born and bred, and I would love the chance to represent my hometown in Parliament.”

The South Swindon seat has been firmly held by Sir Robert Buckland of the Conservative Party since May 2010 and Heidi talked about the need for change after enduring 14 years of Conservative rule. “I am putting myself forward to be Swindon South’s next MP because our town deserves an MP with integrity and experience, who understands local people’s concerns and aspirations and will get things done.”

Having served previously as an MP elsewhere, Heidi asserted her return to her roots, proclaiming, “The road to a Labour Government runs through Swindon, and I want to do all I can to deliver a better and fairer future for our town and country.”

The last General Election in 2019 saw three contenders compete for the South Swindon constituency.

Robert Buckland secured 26,536 votes, commanding 52.3% of the ballots, Sarah Church, representing Labour, took 19,911 votes, constituting 39.2% of the electorate and Stan Pajak, the Liberal Democrat candidate, amassed 4,299 votes, amounting to 8.5% of the vote share.
