Handbag theft in Old Town

Priceless items belonging to a Swindon woman’s late partner have been stolen after her handbag was snatched from a pub in the town.

Around 11am on Tuesday 13 November, the victim – who’s in her 70s – was sitting in the Goddard Arms in Old Town when an unknown offender took her grey leather Hotter handbag and a red Radley purse.

The bag contained some items of significant sentimental value, including a set of dog tags that belonged to the victim’s late partner when he served as an airman in Vietnam.  Also inside was a gold plated, engraved Cross pen which belonged to her partner as well.

PC Ed Rogers said:  “We believed the suspect or suspects may have headed down Drove Road afterwards and it’s possible that they have dumped the bag once the valuables had been removed.

“The dog tags and pen cannot be replaced as these are very sentimental, personal items and the victim would love to have them returned.

“I would like to appeal to anyone and their conscience, if you’ve seen the bag or any of these items or perhaps you’ve been offered them for sale – please contact us.  You can do this anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
