“The news of the Oasis leisure center is tragic for Swindon. This is a place where many families and their children, (including myself)have learn to swim, have family time and to have fun. I can remember lining up with my brothers and sisters waiting to go in with our Swindon card in our hands.
It has been at the heart of Swindon since opening, we cannot let it simply close it’s doors forever and just acknowledge it as “disappointing”. Therefore, we at the Green party & Swindon Young Greens, call on the council to retake ownership of the facilitates at the Oasis bringing back under public control.
The Oasis worked very well under public ownership, it can flourish once again and become self-sustaining to help ensure it’s presence in Swindon for years to come. In times like these we need to think big!
But this is only possible under the correct, positive and outward looking council leadership. The Oasis leisure center is unique, and I fear we may never see anything like it again here in Swindon unless we act now to save it.”
