One designated visitor can now visit a patient at the Great Western Hospital after it was announced the NHS Trust have started to ease the Covid-19 visiting rules.
In a statement on the hospital’s website they say: ‘It is still important that we limit the amount of people in the hospital to reduce the spread of infection, and so visitors must visit for one hour a day at a prearranged time.’
‘Visitors must wear a face covering or face mask and keep a 2 metre distance from other people, as well as washing and sanitising your hands regularly.’
Before visiting you should contact the ward department/service setting to discuss appropriate local arrangements.
Adult visiting
1. Inpatient visiting should be limited to one close family contact (from the same household or social bubble) each day
2. The nominated visitor can visit for one hour per day
3. The nominated visitor will need to book their visit with the clinical area beforehand
Exceptions can be made for a carer if the patient requires them for ongoing personal ongoing physical and emotional care and support whilst in hospital, for example those with learning disabilities or dementia.
Other circumstances where exceptions can be made include visiting on compassionate grounds such as when the patient is at end of life.
Exceptions to the restricted visiting should be agreed with the Nurse in Charge or Ward Sister.
You are NOT able to come to the hospital if:
- You are required to self-isolate because they live in a household where someone has had symptoms of COVID-19 in the last 14 days
- You are displaying symptoms of COVID-19
Visitors that were previously ‘shielding’ should remain cautious about visiting and have strict adherence to the social distancing and hand hygiene guidelines.
