Polling stations will close at 10pm tonight so when do we find out who won?
Here’s what you need to know
Although this can only be used as an indication of how the election will go the exit poll correctly called the 2017 election. This will be broadcast on Sky, ITV and the BBC as soon as polls close.
Official results will start to come in from around 11pm with Sunderland and Newcastle traditionally leading the way in declaring the first results. Swindon are not normally too far behind but with a new location for the official count this year, STEAM Museum instead of the Oasis, there could be some teething problems.
When will we know who’s won?
Timings can vary but all counts should be completed by around 6am on Friday December 13th.
Swindon North is expected to be declared around 2am and Swindon South by 4am.
The official result will be known before then as a party gains a majority once it wins in 326 constituencies, just over half the number of seats in the House of Commons.
After the voting is complete the leader of the winning party – if there is one – will ask the Queen for permission to form a new government before heading back to 10 Downing Street where they will deliver a victory speech.
