Have you ever wondered what would happen if the current Prime Minister didn’t win their own seat in the General Election but their party won?
Would they still be Prime Minister?
Prime Minister Boris Johnson may have been campaigning all over the UK these last few weeks but he is going to be hoping he gets to keep his seat in Uxbridge and South Ruislip this coming Thursday.
When he won the seat in West London in 2015 he had a majority vote of over 10,ooo however in 2017 this was halved to just over 5,000. Should that major loss occur again Boris Johnson would be the first Tory leader to lose his seat since Arthur Balfour in 1906.
What would happen if the Conservative Party wins the majority vote but Boris Johnson loses his seat?
If Mr Johnson was to lose his seat he could still continue as Prime Minister, if the Conservatives win a majority, by appointing himself as a Lord, something not seen since way back in 1902 when the Marquess of Salisbury led the government from the Lords.
Although this is a possibility it is highly unlikely that the Conservative Party would allow him to remain as leader.
