Education Secretary Gavin Williamson has confirmed this evening that GCSE and A Level students won’t sit exams this summer however the government is refusing to confirm that the exams have been cancelled altogether.
The Department for Education (DfE) will work alongside exams regulator Ofqual to design a way of grading pupils. A spokesperson confirming that “The Government position is that we will not be asking students to sit GCSE and A Levels.
“Working alongside Ofqual, the department will consult on how to award all pupils a grade that reflects the hard work they’ve done and will continue to do.”
This news comes after it was announced schools and colleges in England will be given the choice over whether to run vocational exams due to take place this month despite being told yesterday that students “should attend as scheduled.”
