Get ready for an egg-citing adventure at Lydiard Park this Easter Sunday (31 March) as the beloved Easter Egg Trail returns to delight families of all ages.
With clues cleverly concealed around the park and its picturesque lake, participants will embark on a thrilling quest to uncover hidden eggs and decipher a special word to claim their egg-cellent prize.
From 11am to 3pm, eager egg hunters can gather at the Coach House Tea Rooms to kickstart their Easter escapade. For just £5 per child, little explorers can join in the fun, with trail sheets readily available on-site. No booking is necessary, but youngsters must be accompanied by a responsible adult. And remember, while the hunt is on, parking charges do apply.
But the Easter fun doesn’t stop there! On the eve of the trail (30 March), Lydiard House Museum will unveil a captivating new exhibition entitled ‘Lest We Forget: The Black Contribution to the World Wars in Wiltshire.’ This thought-provoking showcase sheds light on the often-overlooked history of Caribbean and American servicemen during WWI and WWII in Wiltshire.
Through immersive videos, stirring artworks, and insightful contributions from local groups, the exhibition honours the courageous individuals who played a pivotal role in both world wars.
Councillor Chris Watts, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, expressed his excitement for the upcoming festivities, stating, “Lydiard has been running the Easter trail for a number of years now and it’s always been very popular, so I’m delighted it will be running again this month. It’s a great way to explore the grounds of Lydiard Park and is good fun for all the family.”
For those eager to tantalise their taste buds, Lydiard Park Hotel invites park visitors to indulge in its renowned hog roast, expertly prepared by the hotel’s executive chef. The succulent hog roast will be available from 12pm to 4pm on Friday, 29 March, and Sunday, 31 March, adjacent to the Walled Garden by the Coach House Tea Rooms. Additionally, guests can reserve a table at the Palm Bar and Restaurant for a special lamb version of its Sunday Lunch.
Throughout the bustling Easter holiday period, the Forest Café and Coach House Tea Rooms will be open, providing a welcome respite for weary adventurers.
