‘Freedom Day’ could come two weeks earlier than announced

Coronavirus restrictions could be lifted in England two weeks earlier than previously announced by Prime Minister Boris Johnson, on July 5th according to a unnamed Downing Street source.

Claims made in the Daily Mail state there is ‘growing evidence that assumptions used by government scientists to justify delaying Freedom Day were too pessimistic’ with the source quoted as saying: “The decision to delay reopening was so finely balanced – probably the most difficult decision of the whole pandemic – that the PM wanted a review point built in so that if things did change we could move sooner.

“No-one wants these restrictions in place for a day longer than necessary.”

The current Covid-19 coronavirus restrictions were set to be lifted this Monday, 21st June, as part of the UK Government’s four step ‘Road Map’ out of lockdown. This was pushed back by four weeks to 19th July due to concerns over the rise in cases of the Delta variant.
