Fire Service Honours Long-Serving Heroes at Annual Awards in Tidworth

Dedication, courage, and decades of service were at the heart of this year’s Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service awards ceremony, held on Friday 9 May at the Tidworth Garrison Theatre.

The annual event brought together fire service staff, local dignitaries, and honoured guests to celebrate the commitment of those who have given 20, 30, or even 40 years to public service. From Long Service & Good Conduct medals to Chief Fire Officer’s Commendations, the evening marked the unwavering contribution of firefighters and support staff across the region.

Medals and clasps were formally presented by Dame Sarah Troughton DCVO, His Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant of Wiltshire, and Colonel Terry Canham DL, His Majesty’s Deputy Lieutenant of Dorset. The ceremony was also attended by the High Sheriff of Dorset, Callum Bremner JP, and the High Sheriff of Wiltshire, Martin Nye. Representing Wiltshire Police was Chief Constable Catherine Roper, alongside members of the Dorset & Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Authority.

Chief Fire Officer Andy Cole spoke of the significance of the ceremony, saying:
“This is an important moment in our calendar. It’s a chance to stop and recognise those whose hard work, dedication and professionalism might otherwise go unseen. These awards reflect the heart of our Service – from operational excellence to community impact.”

He continued:
“We’re also grateful to the families, friends and employers who support our staff – particularly those in on-call roles. Their backing makes our work possible.”

Among the highlights were commendations awarded for acts of bravery, exceptional service, and moments of going far beyond the call of duty. The full list of this year’s recipients can be found online at www.dwfire.org.uk/awards-ceremony-2025.

Thanks were extended to event sponsors, including Crystal Facilities Management Services, Fireblitz, Kubus, NEC, Advantage Digital Print, HAG, Halls Electrical, Rosenbauer and SPS – whose support helped make the evening possible.

While the ceremony lasted only a few hours, it represented a lifetime of commitment from those who put their communities first, every single day.
