Swindon charity, the Prospect Hospice, has kicked off recruitment for its first ever fundraising trek to the ‘land of fire and ice.’
Taking place in March 2024, the expedition offers participants the opportunity to discover the spectacular landscape and wildlife of Iceland, while helping to raise vital funds in support of the charity’s work.
Coined as the ‘land of fire and ice’ due to its stunning volcanic and glacial landscapes, Iceland is the perfect setting for participants to test their limits through a series of grueling hikes in some of the country’s most iconic areas.
This incredible five-day challenge will take place 16 to 20 March 2024.
Participants will also have the opportunity to explore the historical, cultural and geologically significant Thingvellir National Park, and Iceland’s infamous ‘Golden Circle’ route.
Commenting on the Trek, head of income at Prospect Hospice, Sheryl Crouch, said, “We are very excited about this challenge as it’s the first time we have organised an Iceland trek. Known as the ‘land of fire and ice’ due to its stunning volcanic and glacial landscapes, Iceland is the perfect setting for participants to really test their limits and challenge themselves through a series of hikes in some of the country’s most iconic areas.”
“Perhaps you would like to take on this trek in memory of a loved one? Or maybe you want to challenge yourself, do something different or tick this iconic trip off your bucket list. Whatever the reason, we will support you every step of the way while you help raise vital funds to support the outstanding care of local people at the end of their lives.”
Participants will hike along the fault line that divides America and Europe in the National Park of Thingvellir – the only place in the world you can stand between two continental plates with its breathtaking geological landscape.
Each participant is asked to pay a registration fee of £390 when they sign up to the challenge. In addition to this, as this challenge is raising vital funds for the hospice, each participant is asked to raise a minimum of £2,990 in sponsorship.
There will be an information evening covering everything you need to know about the Iceland Trek on Wednesday 1st March, 6.30pm at Prospect Hospice in Wroughton.
