An attempted daylight robbery in Swindon’s Old Town has prompted a police investigation, after a group of masked individuals targeted a long-established jewellery shop on Wood Street.
At approximately 3.15pm yesterday (8th July), three unidentified suspects arrived outside Deacons Jewellers, pulling up in what is believed to be a Mitsubishi Outlander, thought to be operating on cloned number plates.
Armed with tools, the group made a brazen attempt to smash and grab items from the shop’s window displays. However, they failed to access the valuables and fled the scene empty-handed, speeding off in the same vehicle they arrived in.
All three individuals were said to be dressed in tracksuits and had their faces covered, making immediate identification difficult.
Wiltshire Police have now launched a full investigation into the incident. Officers are urging anyone who may have witnessed the event or has any relevant information to come forward. The case reference number is 54250086118 and reports can be made by calling 101.
A spokesperson for the police confirmed: “We’re appealing to anyone who may have seen the incident, the vehicle in question, or anything suspicious in the area around the time to get in touch as a matter of urgency.”
