Police patrols have been increased in the Rodbourne area of Swindon in recent weeks following concerns regarding illegal drug activity.
Drug dealing is currently one of the priorities for the Neighbourhood Policing Team covering the area and officers have been conducting high visibility patrols in the area to provide both reassurance to local residents and target those involved in the supply of drugs.
During these patrols, an 18-year-old man was located and searched under section 23 misuse of drugs act – suspected class A drugs were located and he was arrested on suspicion of possession of class A drugs.
He was taken to Gablecross custody for further questioning and has since been released under investigation while further enquiries are conducted.
Inspector Carly Nesbitt said: “We are aware of the concerns regarding illegal drug activity in the Rodbourne area and it is currently one of the priorities for the Neighbourhood Policing Team covering that area.
“In conjunction with response officers and the Community Tasking Team, a number of high visibility and plain clothes proactive patrols have been carried out in Rodbourne and these will continue to take place regularly to both reassure residents and to tackle offenders. As part of this work, we have gathered several pieces of intelligence and we are looking to take enforcement action when appropriate to do so.
“We would like to remind residents of the importance of reporting their concerns so we can deal with any incidents safely and appropriately – if you suspect drug activity is taking place in your neighbourhood, please report it by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency or if a crime is in progress.”
