My Dad’s Bigger Than Your Dad Festival is gearing up for its fourth edition at The Old Town Bowl on Saturday, July 20th, 2024, with the initial lineup announcement creating a buzz among local music enthusiasts.
Leading the pack is the return of local icon Gaz Brookfield, accompanied by his band, The Company of Thieves. Gaz, known for his heartfelt performances, is set to embark on ‘The Almost all Village Halls’ tour. This follows a well-deserved break after the success of his ninth album, “Morning Walking Club.”
Released in August 2023, the album quickly made waves, securing #1 in the Official UK Folk Album Charts, #3 in the Official UK Indie Breaker Charts, #6 in the Official UK Download Charts, #10 in the Official UK Indie Album Charts, and an impressive #37 in the Official UK Album Sales Charts.
Co-organiser Ed Dyer expressed delight at welcoming Gaz and the band back to The Bowl, especially after their recent chart-topping success, saying “It’s our absolute pleasure to be welcoming Gaz and the band back to The Bowl, especially after his recent success, and pleased he’s been able to squeeze us in around his busy touring schedule.”
My Dad’s Bigger Than Your Dad Festival, over its first three years, has raised over £32,000 for Prospect Hospice in memory of Dave Young, the former landlord of The Victoria and 12 Bar. Dave, who fought a courageous battle against cancer, passed away in June 2021 at Prospect Hospice.
Adding to the festival’s vibrancy, Calne’s punk covers outfit, The Chaos Brothers, featuring Dave Young’s last band, will join Gaz on stage. Swindon-based bluesy THUD, known for their debut performance at MDBTYD 2021, will also be part of the day’s eclectic lineup.
Ed Dyer teased, “This is only the beginning for MDBTYD 2024. We can’t wait to unveil the rest of our exciting lineup!”
As always, MDBTYD Festival promises a day of family-friendly activities, including the return of the popular indie market and a diverse selection of food and drinks from local vendors.
Prospect Hospice, based in Wroughton, relies on fundraising to provide palliative and end-of-life care across the region.
