Swindon based WH Smith has today announced that it has been the target of a cyber attack.
The high street retailer is investigating after hackers accessed company data, including the details of current and former employees.
The company, based in Greenbridge, said its website, customer accounts and underlying customer databases are on separate systems and were not affected.
WH Smith said: “Upon becoming aware of the incident, we immediately launched an investigation, engaged specialist support services and implemented our incident response plans, which included notifying the relevant authorities.
“WH Smith takes the issue of cyber security extremely seriously and investigations into the incident are ongoing.
“We are notifying all affected colleagues and have put measures in place to support them.”
The incident did not impact its trading activities either.
