Diners in Swindon who have been making the most of the government’s ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ scheme may be saddened to hear the a statement from the Treasury this morning suggests that the scheme will not be extended, despite please from the hospitality sector to do so.
‘Part of this popularity of the Eat Out to Help Out scheme is precisely because it is a time-limited scheme – this reminds and encourages people to safely return to going out.’
‘The scheme complements a wider package of hospitality support that goes beyond August, including cutting VAT to 5%, paying the wages of furloughed staff, business rates relief and billions in tax deferrals and loans.’
More than 64 million meals were eaten under the scheme during its first three weeks, according to data released on Tuesday.
There is good news for those eating out in September with a number of chains announcing they will be extending the scheme in their restaurants througoht the country and will be picking up the bill themselves.
Hall & Woodhouse in Wichelstowe are believed to be extending their offering as well the Harvester, Toby Carvery, Tesco Café, Pizza Hut and Prezzo.
Deliveroo have also announced that during the first three days of each week in September they will be offering £5 off an order of £20 or more placed at local restaurants.
