Today sees the launch the Government’s Eat out to Help Out initiative and most eateries in the town centre’s The Crossing and The Brunel are taking part.
The scheme gives sit-down diners 50 per cent discount off the cost of their meals on all Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays in August, up to £10 per person. Because The Crossing has seating the food outlets are eligible to take part, even if they only have take-away counters.
Socially-distanced seating is available at The Crossing and all areas of the centre are thoroughly cleaned throughout the day in line with the Government’s COVID-19 guidelines. This includes regular sanitisation of all tables and seating as well as high touch-point areas such as handrails and doors. The Centre’s toilets are open and are also available for hand-washing and there are several sanitisation stations around the building.
Broccoli Pizza and Pasta is one of the businesses taking part in the scheme and owner Prakash Guna is urging Swindon people to support their local independent businesses.
Prakash said: “I think this is a good scheme and it has the potential to help food businesses recover from this very challenging situation.
“I am confident that our customers will be safe, we comply with Government COVID-19 hygiene regulations. All staff wear gloves and masks and regularly wash their hands. We know that The Brunel are also rigorous in their cleaning regimes and regularly clean tables and chairs between customers.
“We are luckier than some as when the pandemic hit we already had many customers having regular deliveries from us so that helped sustain us at the start. But now that it’s more common for food businesses to do home deliveries we do have more competition. My message to customers is please support us and help us survive by shopping locally.”
The Government has introduced the Eat Out to Help Out scheme to boost the struggling hospitality industry, now that the national lockdown is easing. You don’t need a voucher to use the scheme and you can use it at the same time as other offers and discounts.
Food outlets in The Crossing and The Brunel that are taking part include:
Boswells
Broccoli Pizza Pasta
Burger Priest
Chopstix
Fillerz
McDonalds
Mcctaffs
Taste of India
Tripple Two Coffee
Subway
Offers available from the centre’s tenants can be found on the websites and social media channels of the individual businesses and some on www.thebrunel.co.uk and www.facebook.com/thebrunel
