Three talented Year 6 pupils from Drove Primary School have been celebrated for their creative contributions to a new community logo that encapsulates the spirit of Broadgreen.
The competition saw more than 150 children take the chance to illustrate what their local neighbourhood means to them.
The winning designs, created by Zacarias, Zara, and Aadhya, were chosen to form the foundation of the new ‘Brighter Broadgreen’ logo. This emblem will now serve as a symbol for the ongoing community activities and initiatives in the area, supported by local agencies and residents alike.
Over the past year, Wiltshire Police, Swindon Borough Council, the Office for the Police and Crime Commissioner, and South Swindon Parish Council have collaborated as part of a national Home Office initiative to address key concerns in Broadgreen. These efforts have targeted organised crime, drug offences, anti-social behaviour, illegal trading, and dangerous driving. The partnership has led to dozens of arrests and fines, alongside successful community engagement events, including neighbourhood clean-ups and tackling issues like inconsiderate parking.
Councillor Jim Grant, Swindon Borough Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Partnerships, expressed his gratitude to the children of Drove Primary School: “I’d like to say a huge thank you to all the pupils who took part in this competition. Their colourful and thoughtful designs truly capture the warm and welcoming spirit of Broadgreen. The new logo, inspired by Zacarias, Zara, and Aadhya, will be a proud symbol of the partnership between residents and local agencies as we work together to ensure lasting positive change in the area.”
Detective Superintendent Guy Elkins, Wiltshire Police’s Swindon Hub Commander, also praised the initiative: “The ‘Brighter Broadgreen’ logo reflects the essence of what we aim to achieve in this community. I’d like to thank the children for their hard work and creativity. While we’ve made significant strides in addressing criminality and other issues in Broadgreen, there’s still more to do. I encourage residents to continue reporting any concerns as their insights are invaluable in shaping our actions.”
