A man has been charged with drink driving after a single vehicle road traffic collision (RTC) during the early hours of yesterday morning.
At approximately 1.35am, police responded to a report concerning a car that had been engaged in a crash, subsequently overturning onto its side along the M4 eastbound near junction 16, adjacent to Royal Wootton Bassett.
Thankfully, the incident did not involve any other vehicles, and no serious injuries have been reported.
The individual behind the wheel, identified as Aaron Watkins, aged 31, from Pellau Road, Port Talbot, was taken into custody and now faces a charge of drink driving after registering above the permissible alcohol limit.
Watkins has been granted bail and is scheduled to make an appearance at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on August 30th.
Driving under the influence of alcohol is one of the ‘fatal five’ violations, all of which escalate the likelihood of being implicated in a grave or fatal accident.
Throughout this month, Wiltshire Police has initiated a Road Safety Campaign concentrating on both enforcement measures and enhancing awareness about the ‘fatal five’ offences: speeding, drug and alcohol-related driving, phone usage while driving, failure to wear a seatbelt, and reckless or hazardous driving.
If you suspect an individual of driving under the influence of alcohol, dial 101, or in case of an emergency, call 999, providing comprehensive details including the driver’s description, vehicle particulars, and the direction of travel.
