‘Don’t Lose Your Head’ but Six the Musical at Swindon’s Wyvern is pretty damn good!

We all know the story of King Henry VIII and his six wives don’t we? – Divorced. Beheaded. Died. Divorced. Beheaded. Survived.

If you think you know the full story from everything you learnt in school? ‘Sorry, not sorry’ but think again – I know more now after 75 minutes of song that I learnt in all my years at school! – So put the history books books down and let the wives do the talking, sorry singing.

Written by Toby Marlow and Lucy Moss this genius production feels more like a Spice Girls/Little Mix concert than a musical with the audience wowed by six high-energy pop princesses. It is not hard to see why this is musical sells out everywhere i goes.

Your Holiday Starts Now

Catherine of Aragon, Anne Boleyn, Jane Seymour, Anne of Cleves, Catherine Howard, and Katherine Parr, Six wives each with a different story to tell.

Bursting on stage they introduce themselves in a rendition of Ex-Wives before taking it in turns to present their version of events – six individual powerhouse performances of catchy pop songs with lyrics that will stay with you long after you leave the Wyvern, this is a show not to be missed – if you are able to get yourself a ticket that is!

The Queens in the UK tour of Six the Musical are played by Chloe Hart (Catherine of Aragon), Jennifer Caldwell (Anne Boleyn), Casey Al-Shaqsy (Jane Seymour), Jessica Niles (Anna of Cleves), Leesa Tulley (Katherine Howard) and Alana M Robinson (Catherine Parr).

The six wives were all equally brilliant with exceptional powerful voices and commanding stage presence and when they sing together they are just unstoppable!

In the short periods they were not in song, whether they were bickering, competing or supporting another queen, their chemistry was just on fire, however there is always someone that stands out. Feisty and fierce Chloe Hart (Catherine of Aragon) was just amazing, I thought she had won the contest early on to be my favourite queen, that was until the sassy Jennifer Caldwell (Anne Boleyn) stepped up and stole the show, for me anyway – outspoken and witty she oozed attitude and charisma that was so Lilly Allen-esque.

Although this is one of the shortest musicals you will watch, you cannot help but leave Six, impressed, singing one or more of the catchy numbers on your way home and I bet it is not long before you search Spotify or ask Alexa to ‘Play SIX – The Musical.’

With next year’s UK tour dates already on sale, this is one show you shouldn’t wait around to book!
