Detectives leading the investigation into the death of a man discovered on Manchester Road in Swindon have been given additional time to question a 31-year-old suspect arrested on suspicion of murder.
The victim was found on Tuesday (2 July), prompting a significant police response that saw Manchester Road closed to traffic for most of the day while officers carried out extensive searches at the scene. The road has since reopened, allowing residents and commuters to resume their journeys through the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Phil Walker, who is heading the inquiry, confirmed that no other suspects are currently being sought in connection with the incident. He expressed condolences to the family of the deceased, stating: “We are not currently looking for anyone else in connection with this tragic incident, and I would like to send my condolences to the family of the victim.
“A broad search of the scene, which meant that Manchester Road had to be cordoned off, has now been significantly scaled back. Members of the public will notice ongoing police activity, but the road is now open to traffic. We appreciate the disruption that this will have had for those living in the area and I would like to thank them for their patience and support while this important work has been carried out.”
Police are continuing to appeal to a man who initially alerted officers to the incident but left without providing his details. Investigators believe he may hold vital information to assist the investigation.
Anyone who was in the area at the time, or who may have information or recorded footage that could aid the inquiry, is urged to contact Wiltshire Police on 101 quoting log 47 of 2 July. Alternatively, details can be shared anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555111.
